I went to church today, it was so great. I really love that place. I wish I went a bit more often.... hopefully when my schedule stabilizes I'll be able to do just that! It's called West Angeles and it's the closest place I've found to the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago. There's something about the feeling you get when you enter the doors at both of these places. There is such an abundance of love...they feel like home. And the pastors at both of these places are just absolutely amazing. Bishop Charles Blake at West Angeles is amazing and was recently featured in People magazine for his "Save Africa's Children" program. And I simply cannot say enough about how much I love and respect Bishop Arthur M. Brazier of Apostolic Church of God in Chicago. He is truly an amazing man. He counseled Efren and I before we got married, his son married us, and he came by the funeral to hold my hand. I remember his 80 something year old distinguished face looking at me with compassion in his eyes. "It happened so fast", he said. "You two were just in my office 2 months ago!" I said, "I know", and as tears welled up in my eyes, he smiled and said "you're a trooper, you know that?" Then he gave me a hug. This might not seem amazing to some people, but when you consider the fact that this 80+ year old man is the pastor to thousands and thousands of people, yet he made time for us is amazing to me. Not to mention that they did not charge me one dime for the wedding or funeral...and they even served dinner after the funeral service. Ugh...I just got a knot it my stomach from having to mention wedding and funeral in the same sentence...that just doesn't seem right. Anyway! The point is, they are great places...you guys should totally visit them if you have the opportunity!
Oh, on an interesting note, after church today, my friend and I were walking to the car and we heard a very strange noise. I stopped and with a very confused look on my face I said, "Was that a rooster??" My friend was like, "That better not be a rooster!" Well let me tell ya...it was indeed a rooster. In the middle of Inglewood. Boy, I love my people!
